General information
The German Academy of Aviation and Travel Medicine was founded as a non-profit company by Deutsche Lufthansa AG and the German Society of Aviation and Space Medicine in 1991. In May 2016, the Society acquired Lufthansa’s shares and has since been the Academy’s sole shareholder.
The organisation’s purpose is to educate and train aviation medical examiners and to support and conduct research in aviation, aerospace and air travel medicine.
Around 40 physicians take part in aeromedical training each year. The Basic and Advanced Courses are recognised by the national aviation authority on behalf of all EASA member states, while the Diploma Course adds advanced aviation and travel medicine.
